Following the initial development of a ECSS conformant Qualification Data Package (QDP) for RTEMS some years ago, we now have been awarded the RTEMS SMP Qualification extension activity by the European Space Agency ESA.

The main objectives of this activity are to:

  • Update the Qualification Toolchain for more flexibility and improved documentation
  • Extend the qualification scope to include the POSIX API (with limited feature set, though)
  • Add new hardware, particularly the GR765 w. LEON-V and RISC-V/NOEL-V cores
  • Update the RTEMS baseline and include recent patches, as well as to comply with the most recent ECSS-E-ST-40C and ECSS-Q-ST-80C standard
  • Perform an independent software verification (ISVV) to obtain ECSS Cat. B for all this

The activity is scheduled from Nov. 2025 to May 2027, and will be carried out by embedded brains together with our partners OHB, GTD and Critical Software.
